Garden City Community College Launches Beef Feedlot Production Certificate Program
[Garden City, KS] July 8, 2026 -- Garden City Community College (GCCC) will expand its agricultural offerings this fall with the addition of a new Beef Feedlot Production Certificate, a 21-credit technical certificate designed to prepare students for careers in one of southwest Kansas' most vital industries.
The new Certificate A will provide students with the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills needed for entry-level positions in beef feedlot operations and livestock management.
The program was developed in response to workforce needs identified by regional employers and industry partners who have expressed a growing demand for skilled employees with practical training in beef cattle production.
"Beef production is a cornerstone of the agricultural economy in southwest Kansas," said Dr. Ryan Ruda, GCCC President. "This new certificate reflects our commitment to developing programs that meet local workforce needs while creating meaningful career opportunities for our students. By working alongside industry partners, we're preparing graduates with the skills employers are looking for from day one."
The 21-credit certificate includes courses such as Agriculture in Our Society, Principles of Animal Science, Animal Diseases and Health, Principles of Feeding, Commercial Feedlot Operations, Beef Production, Animal Welfare and Handling, and Animal Nutrition.
Graduates will be prepared for entry-level employment in feedlots and livestock operations, with opportunities for advancement through additional training and experience. The program also helps address workforce shortages across Kansas' beef production sector while supporting one of the region's largest industries.
