GCCC Selected as 2020 Promising Places to Work
[Garden City, KS] March 27, 2020 -- Garden City Community College is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, the institution has been selected as a "2020 Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges" by the National Institute for Staff and Organization Development and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
Better known as NISOD, the national research and development organization is housed at University of Texas' College of Education and has provided faculty-focused professional development resources to community and technical colleges for over 40 years.
When GCCC was selected in 2019, it was one of less than 20 community colleges across the nation recognized by both NISOD and Diverse, the nation's premier publication covering issues pertaining to underrepresented minorities in American higher education
NISOD reports that GCCC has earned this recognition for "serving as a beacon for diversity" and its "best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments, and meaningful community service and engagement opportunities."
GCCC President Dr. Ryan Ruda said the recognition only reinforces the work faculty and staff do daily to drive student success and put students first.
That dedication and drive has become even more abundantly clear in the wake of the ongoing public health challenge (COVID-19), he added, as it has compelled GCCC, like many institutions, to transition coursework online, find innovative methods to serve students in an era of social distancing, and continue to carry out GCCC's mission while putting community health and safety first.
"I am extremely proud of all our employees, as this recognition does not occur by happenstance," Dr. Ruda said. "This is from intentional, dedicated, and focused work and our commitment to people. We are in a people business and this recognition validates that GCCC is a leader in the field."
GCCC, along with other winning institutions, would normally have been recognized during NISOD's annual conference in Austin, Texas. However, due to COVID-19, the 2020 NISOD conference has been cancelled and alternative ways to recognize recipients are being considered, according to the organization.
