Garden City Community College Expands Construction Technology Program for Fall 2025
[Garden City, KS] June 18, 2025 -- Garden City Community College (GCCC) is expanding its Construction Technology program beginning Fall 2025, offering enhanced training opportunities to meet growing workforce demands across Southwest Kansas and beyond.
The expansion includes new credential options in Construction Technology, developed in partnership with the Southwest Kansas Builders Association. These updates respond to increasing student interest and urgent regional needs in the housing and construction industries.
“This expansion is a direct reflection of what we’re hearing from students, industry partners, and the communities we serve,” said Dr. Ryan Ruda, GCCC President. “We’re proud to offer more pathways that prepare students for high-demand careers while supporting the workforce needs of our region.”
The updated Construction Technology curriculum includes multiple credentialing options to suit a variety of goals and timelines:
- Certificate A – 21 credits, two semesters (existing option), featuring core construction skills and hands-on project work.
- Certificate B – 31 credits, two semesters (new), builds on Cert A with expanded training and skillsets.
- Certificate C – 46 credits, three semesters (new), builds on Cert B with advanced coursework and experience.
- Associate in Applied Science (AAS) – 60 credits, two-year degree (new), that incorporates general education coursework for a well-rounded education and broader career opportunities.
Coursework covers a wide range of essential construction topics, including construction site safety, blueprint reading, tools and materials, framing, interior and exterior finishing, roofing, and more.
The Construction Technology program is eligible for the Kansas Promise Scholarship, which is a state-funded, last-dollar program that covers tuition, fees, books, and program-related costs for eligible Kansas residents enrolled in high-demand programs. More information can be found on the GCCC Kansas Promise Scholarship webpage.
