GCCC Theater Program Announces Fall Schedule Changes

[Garden City, KS, Sept. 30, 2019--] The College Players of the Garden City Community College Theatre Department will be postponing a fall production of "Death of a Salesman" to the spring season.

Written by Arthur Miller, the 1949 Pulitzer-prize winning stage play was originally scheduled for Oct. 3-7. The new dates for "Death of Salesman" will be April 24-25, 2020, at 7:30 p.m., and April 26, 2020, at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of its originally scheduled production, the GCCC theater department will be hosting "Students for Students," a variety show on Oct. 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend the free production to view some of the original work students have performed for competitive acting scholarships during their participation in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in Washington D.C. this past April.

"Students work really hard on contest pieces, but the public rarely gets to see them," said Phil Hoke, drama instructor at GCCC. "Folks who attend will be able to see thought-provoking works that take on a number of contemporary issues, and they will get to see everything from classical to modern with a little song and dance thrown in for good measure."

The GCCC theater department's fall programs also include "Santa's Got the Flu," an original musical created by GCCC students Steven Wade Freeman and A. B. Hernandez, which will take place Nov. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 24 at 2:30 p.m. In addition to "Death of a Salesman," the spring season also features a dinner theater of John Cariani's "Almost, Maine," on Feb. 20-23 at 7 p.m.
