Shoot for Scholarships Oct. 26 Cancelled

[Garden City, KS] Oct. 14,2019 - Garden City Community College's "Shoot for Scholarships" competition event has been canceled, and a reschedule date is in the works.

The annual event originally scheduled for Oct. 26, 2019, is being considered for next spring or summer, according to GCCC Department of Public Safety Director Brandy Unruh.

Despite the event's cancellation, the "Shoot for Scholarships" handgun raffle is still available. DPS will still be raffling off two firearms -- an 9 mm SIG Sauer P226 full-sized, service-type pistol and a 9 mm SIG Sauer P365 compact pistol. Tickets, $25 each, can be purchased at the following locations: the DPS department inside the John Collins Vocational Building on campus; the GCCC Endowment Association inside the Student & Community Services Center on campus; or the AAA Pawn Shop, 132 W. Kansas Ave., in Garden City.

The value of guns together is around $1,300, and the raffle winner must be able to legally own a handgun and pass a background check to claim his or her prize, according Unruh. Winner will be drawn Nov. 1, 2019, and only 150 tickets will be sold. He or she does not need to be present to win.

Funds raised from the raffle benefit DPS students enrolled in criminal justice, emergency medical technology, and fire science programs. For more information or to purchase a raffle ticket, contact Unruh at team-t@gcccks.edu or at 620-276-9503.
