Three New Trustees Sworn In

[Garden City, KS] Dec. 10 2019 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees swore in three new board members during a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019.

The board and GCCC administration also honored the service of three outgoing trustees, who together boast 27 years of service.

The incoming board members include Beth Tedrow, a former long-standing GCCC dean and instructor; Shanda Smith, a local business owner who has served on the board of the GCCC Endowment Association; and Dave Rupp, a former GCCC criminal justice instructor. They were ceremoniously sworn in by GCCC President Dr. Ryan Ruda. Their offices will officially take effect starting January 13, 2020, according to Dr. Blake Wasinger, board chair.

Tedrow, Smith, and Rupp are set to replace outgoing trustees Terri Worf, Jeff Crist, and Steve Martinez. Worf served as a trustee for 16 years, which includes four, four-year terms. Crist served for seven years, first completing a three-year stint for a position left vacant by an outgoing trustee and then re-elected for another four-year term. And Martinez served one four-year term. GCCC is governed by a six-member board of publicly-elected trustees, who serve terms of four years each.

Notice of Claims from Bradforth Family

The GCCC Board of Trustees voted unanimously to deny two notice of claims, one from Joanne Atkins-Ingram and another from Sean Bradforth, based on mutual understanding between legal counsels, according to Ruda, GCCC president.

Wasinger, board chair, said the board's decision allows the parents of Braeden Bradforth and their respective legal counsel to more effectively and efficiently move into the mediation process. Wasinger and Ruda both affirmed that the college and its own legal counsel continue to work cooperatively with Bradforth's family members and their legal representatives during this process.
