GCCC Music Department to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Southwest Kansas Community Concert
[Garden City, KS] April 20, 2026 -- The Garden City Community College (GCCC) Department of Music invites the community to a special performance celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Southwest Kansas Community Concert on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas.
The milestone event will feature the Southwest Kansas Chorale, Southwest Kansas Community Orchestra, and the GCCC Concert Choir, bringing together musicians from across the region in a collaborative celebration of music in Southwest Kansas.
This year’s program highlights include John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’ performed by the choir and the ‘Finale from Firebird’ by Igor Stravinsky performed by the orchestra. The concert will also feature a flute concerto performed by Ammi Lopez, a local Garden City educator.
