GCCC Mercer Gallery Hosting Annual Student Art Show

[Garden City, KS] May 7, 2026 – Garden City Community College’s Mercer Gallery proudly announces its annual Student Art Show, showcasing artistic talent from GCCC’s art students. The exhibition is on display now through May 15, 2026, in the Mercer Gallery, located in the GCCC Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building.

This year’s show features a wide range of student artwork that highlights both technical skill and creative exploration in various mediums. Ranging from drawings to sculptural pieces, this show stands as a testimony to the hard work these students have put in. All artworks were created during the student's time at GCCC. From detailed naturalistic studies to bold, abstract pieces, this show provides it all.

In rural communities and higher education, the visual arts play an important role in building culture, encouraging critical thinking, and bringing people together. For many students, art programs offer a space to grow creatively while developing skills that carry into all areas of life. Exhibitions like this one are especially meaningful in communities with limited access to large cultural institutions, giving students the opportunity to share their voices and talents.

The exhibition is free and open to the public, with viewing hours Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM. A closing reception will take place on Friday, May 8th, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Guests will have the chance to meet the student artists, explore their work, and celebrate their creative achievements.

Students enrolled in the ARTS-226 Professional Arts Practices 2 capstone course planned, organized, and installed this exhibition as part of their curriculum.

For more information or questions, please reach out to the course professor, Brian McCallum, at brian.mccallum@gcccks.edu or to Gallery Director, Michael Knutson at michael.knutson@gcccks.edu.
