GCCC Launches Drone Technology Program: Unmanned Aircraft Systems Certificate
[Garden City, KS] July 13, 2026 -- Garden City Community College (GCCC) is expanding its academic offerings with the launch of a new Unmanned Aircraft Systems Technology (UAST) certificate program, designed to provide students with hands-on training in drone technology.
The UAST program will provide students with hands-on training and foundational knowledge in drone operations, safety, and technology. As unmanned aircraft systems continue to transform industries across the country, this program aims to equip students with entry-level skills that meet current workforce demands.
The curriculum is designed to prepare students for a variety of career pathways, including agriculture, real estate, photography and videography, geographic information systems (GIS) mapping, and emergency response. Students will gain hands-on experience and technical skills that can be applied immediately in the field, and the program also prepares them to earn the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification.
“This program reflects GCCC’s commitment to responding to industry needs and preparing students for in-demand careers,” said Dr. Ryan Ruda, GCCC President. “By offering training in unmanned aircraft systems, we are helping strengthen the workforce pipeline while providing students with new and innovative opportunities in drone technology.”
The 19-credit-hour UAST Certificate A is ideal for students seeking to enter the workforce quickly or enhance their current skill set with emerging technology.
Students interested in the UAST Certificate are encouraged to apply for Fall 2026 admission at GCCC's website or call 620-276-9608.
