GCCC Board of Trustees Meeting Recap January 19, 2026
[Garden City, KS] January 19, 2026 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, January 19, 2026, in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room at GCCC.
The meeting opened with the swearing-in of Reynaldo Mesa for his first term on the Board of Trustees, along with the re-sworn oaths of Dr. Merilyn Douglass and Bob Larson following their re-election.
Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC, conducted the annual financial audit for Garden City Community College and presented an overview to the Board. The audit also included the GCCC Endowment Association and the Broncbuster Athletic Association. The 2024-2025 audit resulted in an unmodified opinion, the highest rating available for financial audits.
During its annual organization meeting, the Board elected officers for the year. Shanda Smith was reelected as Chair and will continue serving as the Designated Endowment Association representative. David Rupp was reelected as Vice Chair and will continue serving as the Economic Development Corporation representative, as well as a Broncbuster Athletic Association representative. Dr. Merilyn Douglass will continue serving as the Kansas Association of Community Colleges (KACC) representative and as a Broncbuster Athletic Association representative.
The Board held one executive session and, following it, approved allowing GCCC Administration to negotiate the sale of a GCCC-owned property in Martin Trailer Park.
The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
