The Board reviewed a monitoring report highlighting GCCC’s statewide leadership in student transfer success. In general, the closer a college’s average transfer total is to 60 credit hours, the stronger its transfer program. Based on the number of credit hours students transfer from GCCC to four-year institutions, Garden City Community College ranks #1 in Kansas. GCCC students averaged 56.3 transfer credit hours, an increase from 52.62 the previous year and well above the statewide median of 46.8 credit hours, reflecting the strength of the college’s academic pathways and transfer agreements.
The Board received an update on the Title III STEM Grant, a five-year, $5 million grant awarded to GCCC by the U.S. Department of Education in 2021. As the grant enters its final months, college officials highlighted several recent successes, including the STEM Teacher Summit and STEM Summer Camp, which provided hands-on STEM learning and professional development opportunities for students and educators from across the region. The grant remains on schedule and is expected to successfully conclude at the end of September.
The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
