GCCC Board of Trustees Special Sessions Recap April 1, 2026
[Garden City, KS] April 2, 2026 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees held two consecutive special sessions at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in the Loretta Schultz Conference Room of the Student & Community Services Center on the GCCC campus.
During the first session, the Board reviewed bids for the upcoming Security State Bank Technical Center, a new facility that will house GCCC’s Construction Trades programs. The project has been in development for more than two years, with all funding secured through private donations, grants, and tax credits. No levied tax dollars will be used to fund the facility. The Board approved a bid from Hutton of Garden City, Kansas, in the amount of $2,719,129.
During the second session, the Board reviewed the financing rates for a pre-owned 54-passenger bus. Following approval at the January Board meeting to solicit funding for a bus not to exceed $400,000 with a five-year payback period, the Board approved a lease-purchase proposal from Clayton Holdings through Commerce Bank at a fixed annual interest rate of 4.23%, once a pre-owned bus has been located.
