GCCC Board of Trustees Meeting Recap February 17, 2026

[Garden City, KS] February 18, 2026 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room at GCCC.

The Board opened the meeting by recognizing the GCCC Criminal Justice Competition Team for its outstanding performance at the 2025 Regional Competition last fall. As the only community college represented, the team had every member place in at least one event, earning four first-place, three second-place, and four third-place finishes overall.

The Board approved naming the John Deere expansion classroom and College Farm in honor of Duane Koster and the Koster family. This recognition honors their long-standing support of GCCC, including major contributions through American Implement to match grant funds for the John Deere expansion, as well as ongoing support for scholarships and tax credit programs. Their financial and in-kind contributions meet the college’s naming rights policy, and commemorative lettering and plaques will be placed in the classroom and on the farm.

The Board approved pursuing a five-year lease-purchase for a 54-passenger bus, not to exceed $400,000, with payments from the general fund. The new bus will provide more reliable transportation for athletic teams and activity groups during weekend events.

The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
