GCCC Board of Trustees Meeting Recap April 21, 2026
[Garden City, KS] April 22, 2026 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room at GCCC.
The Board opened the meeting by recognizing the GCCC Quiz Bowl Team, the Quizards, for their strong performance at the national competition in Chicago earlier this semester. This is the sixth consecutive year the Quizards have qualified, placing in the top 24 teams nationally.
The Board also heard a presentation on the successful completion of last fall’s Technology in Agriculture course. Offered in collaboration with NASA Acres, the course provided GCCC students with hands-on experience using modern agricultural technology, including satellite data and geospatial analysis.
The Board approved a new 10-year contract with Great Western Dining beginning in the 2026–27 school year, continuing a longstanding partnership that has supported GCCC food-service since 2010. The agreement includes a new assistant manager position to support growing food-service and catering demands, as well as an upfront investment from Great Western for cafeteria improvements. The contract reflects a 6.6% rate increase, which will be funded through auxiliary funds collected through board meal plans.
The Board approved 2026-2027 Excel in CTE course fee rates as presented to help offset costs associated with class supplies, equipment, and program-related expenses in specific Excel in CTE courses.
The Board unanimously approved a one-year extension of Dr. Ryan Ruda's presidential contract.
Two executive sessions were held with no action taken.
The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
