Garden City Community College to Host 2026 STEM Summer Camp
[Garden City, KS] April 22, 2026 -- The Garden City Community College (GCCC) STEM Success Center will host its 2026 STEM Summer Camp, a hands-on learning experience designed to introduce students to the science of the human body and careers in healthcare.
The three-day camp, titled “The Science of Life and Death – Understanding the Human Body from the Outside In” will take place May 27–29 from 1 to 5 p.m. each day in the Fouse Anatomy & Physiology Lab on the GCCC campus.
Open to high school juniors, seniors, and incoming GCCC freshmen, the camp offers students a unique opportunity to explore human anatomy through immersive, real-world experiences not typically available at the high school level.
Participants will engage in interactive activities focused on major body systems while gaining practical experience with clinical skills such as measuring vital signs and using basic medical equipment. The camp also includes guided study of real anatomical specimens in a professional lab setting.
One of the highlights of the camp is a fetal pig dissection, providing students with hands-on insight into organ systems and anatomical structures. Students will also observe a real autopsy demonstration in a controlled educational environment, offering a deeper understanding of the human body and the responsibilities associated with healthcare professions.
The camp is led by GCCC Assistant Professor of Science Sara Gaut, along with experienced staff, and is designed to bridge classroom science with real-world medical applications while building confidence in a clinical learning environment.
“This camp provides students with early exposure to healthcare career pathways while emphasizing both the science and responsibility involved in the field,” said Misty Wren, Title III STEM Outreach Coordinator at Garden City Community College.
With a focus on exploration and discovery, the STEM Summer Camp helps students make informed decisions about pursuing careers in healthcare and strengthens their understanding of anatomy and physiology through hands-on learning.
Registration is now open online. The cost to attend is $25, and space is limited.
