GCCC Music Department to Host Double Bassist Recital by Krista Kopper on September 6th
[Garden City, KS] September 1, 2023 -- The Garden City Community College Music Department invites the community to attend a Double Bassist Recital by Krista Kopper on Wednesday, September 6th at 7:30 PM in the Portico inside the Beth Tedrow Student Center.
A fanatic of modern and contemporary music, Krista Kopper is a versatile double and electric bassist. She has traveled the country playing musicals as well as commissioning, performing, and recording works for the double bass written by some of the most influential modern composers. An avid improviser, she enjoys exploring the infinite variety of sounds a double bass can produce.
A Garden City native, Krista began playing the bass in the GCHS Orchestra. In 2009, she began her studies with Dr. Mark Foley at WSU. Here, she discovered her love for music stretched beyond typical classical and romantic periods.
She studied at the famed Hartt School in Hartford, CT, where Kopper earned a Master of Performance in 2016. After performing in orchestral music on the East Coast, she relocated to Kansas City in 2019. There, she is a staple of the bass community, performing in orchestras and theatre and teaching at MA Nazarene University.
Matthew McGrory, Assistant Professor of Music at GCCC, shared, "Garden City can genuinely be proud that a native of our city has become a voice for contemporary and cutting-edge music. Please take the time to enjoy her one-of-a-kind bass playing here at the Portico on the 6th at 7:30."
