First-Gen Mixer
The Student Support Services (SSS) TRIO program at Garden City Community College (GCCC)
is excited to host a First-Generation Mixer on November 6th, 2024, from 11:00 AM to
1:00 PM. The event will take place in the Thomas Saffell Library Lobby and is open
to GCCC students, employees, and community members.
"First-generation students are the first in their families to obtain a Bachelor's
degree," shared Dana Nanninga, GCCC Director of SSS. "We want to celebrate our first-gen
students, employees, and community members for breaking barriers and continuing their
journey toward academic success.”
The First-Generation Mixer aims to bring together first-generation students, faculty,
staff, and community members for an opportunity to network, share experiences, and
build connections. This event is an important platform to inspire and empower first-generation
students as they navigate their educational and professional journeys.
Several distinguished speakers have been invited to share their experiences and insights
as first-generation graduates. GCCC Instructor Sara Gaut, Garden City Commissioner
Tom Nguyen, and Garden City Assistant City Manager Derek Ramos will deliver inspiring
messages to attendees.
The GCCC Student Government Association (SGA) and Busters United, along with GCCC
TRIO, are proud sponsors of the event, which is also supported by the First Gen Forward
grant.
