BOT Approves Technology Enhancement Contracts

[Garden City, KS] June 9, 2021 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved two contracts for enhancing technology capabilities on campus during the regularly scheduled meeting on June 8th.

The first contract will provide a backup data storage system solution which will provide GCCC with a much higher level of resiliency and far less downtime in case of various failures. The second contract will upgrade network cables across campus and repair direct ports in student dormitories.  This will improve reliable wireless internet access through the GCCC campus.

The Trustees approved a resolution authorizing GCCC to enter into a lease-purchase transaction, the proceeds of which will be used to pay the costs of acquiring, constructing, and equipping certain building improvements at an estimated cost of $4,156,000.  The projects included were rodeo facility improvements, a new chiller, bus acquisition, campus lighting for security purposes, boiler replacement, a new dishwasher system, a new transportation building, replacement of a section of tunnel cap, replacement of hydronic water pipe, Broncbuster Suites roof replacement, West Hall restroom repairs and replacements and water heating system replacement, and theater improvements.

Dr. Ruda, GCCC President, provided the Board with updates on the various campus projects that are underway including roof work, tunnel systems, auditorium seating, access control, general dormitory repairs, and employee computer replacement.  "There's a significant amount of work going on all over campus this summer.  The projects are on track and we are excited for the improvements those will bring to campus," Dr. Ruda said.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13th at 6 p.m. in the Endowment Room at the Beth Tedrow Student Center.
