About the Program

Program Overview
The Community Health Worker program at Garden City Community College prepares students to serve as a vital connection between healthcare providers and the community. Students develop the skills needed to support public health, advocate for social justice, and improve access to care.

Flexible Online Learning
This program is offered fully online, making it the only Community Health Worker program of its kind in Kansas and providing flexibility for students across the state. The course includes 100 clock hours of fully online class-based instruction and 60 clock hours of service-learning within your own community.

Career-Ready Skills
Students gain practical experience in health education, patient advocacy, community outreach, and care coordination, preparing them to make a meaningful impact in real-world public health settings.

Stand Alone Parent Program for CHW - 10 Credit Hours

CHW.SAPP - The course follows the curriculum and requirements outlined by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and prepares students for the Kansas Community Health Worker Certification through KDHE.

The 10-credit-hour curriculum is aligned with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Community Health Worker Coalition.

Scholarship

Kansas Promise Scholarship Eligible
This program qualifies for the Kansas Promise Scholarship, giving you the opportunity to earn a degree or certificate at little to no cost.

The Kansas Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship that covers tuition, fees, books, and other program-related expenses not already paid by other scholarships or grants. It’s available to eligible Kansas students enrolled in high-demand programs. In return, recipients agree to live and work in Kansas for two years after completing their program.
