Plan your Transfer from GCCC 
If you plan to transfer your GCCC credits to another college or university, this information can help ensure you're able to do that efficiently. Best next step: meet with one of GCCC's academic counselors early to plan for your transfer.
Notice to students transferring to the following Kansas schools:
- Emporia State University
- Fort Hays State University
- Kansas State University
- University of Kansas
- Pittsburg State University
- Wichita State University
- Washburn University
In the 2024-25 academic year, The Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) approved the Systemwide General Education Framework. It is comprised of 34-35 credit hours organized in six discipline-based “buckets” and an institutionally designed bucket. A student who satisfies all seven buckets will complete the systemwide GE program.
Please note this framework applies to the completion of General Education requirements required for the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) and Associate of Science (AS) degrees only. Students that have not completed the General Education requirements for the AA, AFA, or AS, will have coursework reviewed on a course-by-course basis.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and the Associate of General Studies (AGS) degree do not apply to the KBOR Systemwide General Education Framework. Please see your GCCC Advisor if you are pursuing the AAS or AGS degree.
The Liberal Arts (AA) degree also transfers to many private higher education institutions.
Systemwide Transfer Degree
A Systemwide Transfer Degree is a structured pathway designed to provide a seamless transition from any Kansas public community college to any Kansas public university for specific high-demand programs. These pathways currently include five of the most popular transfer fields:
- Business Administration
- Computer Science
- Elementary Education PK-6
- Pre-Nursing
- Pre-Social Work
If you are interested in one of these programs, SWADs have several benefits for GCCC students:
- Guaranteed Credit Application: Each pathway identifies specific courses that reflect the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) General Education framework, ensuring they transfer as the first 60 credit hours toward the articulated baccalaureate degree.
- Junior Status Upon Transfer: By following these pathways, students can transfer to a university as a junior, typically leaving only about 60 credits remaining to complete their bachelor's degree.
- Cost Efficiency: Completing the first two years of a degree at a community college allows students to receive the same quality of instruction for a fraction of the total college investment compared to starting at a four-year university.
- Protection of Credits: General education credits earned within these frameworks cannot be "unbundled" or rejected individually when the student transfers to a state university.
