About the Program

Program Overview
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) program at Garden City Community College prepares students to provide advanced pre-hospital emergency care. Students build on basic emergency medical skills and learn how to respond effectively in critical, life-threatening situations.

Advanced Emergency Care Training
Students master higher-level procedures such as cardiac monitoring and specialized medication administration. This training bridges the gap between basic EMT care and paramedic-level services, focusing on stabilizing patients in urgent situations.

Hands-On Simulation and Field Experience
Training takes place in state-of-the-art simulation labs using advanced airway mannequins and realistic emergency scenarios. Students also gain field experience through ride-alongs with paramedics and firefighters.

Career Pathways
Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce as Emergency Medical Technicians or continue their education toward paramedic-level certification, with the skills and confidence to respond when every second counts.

AEMT Certificate

(AEMT.SAPP) — AEMT certification is ideal for EMTs seeking more responsibility inpatient care or looking to bridge into the Paramedic program.

Requirements

Minimum age: 17 (18 for AEMT and Paramedic).
Education: HS diploma or GED. Prerequisites: Current CPR certification, Anatomy & Physiology (for advanced levels), and current EMT certification for AEMT/Paramedic.
Health & Background: Immunizations, health screening, drug screen, and criminal background check.

Scholarships

Kansas Promise Scholarship Eligible
This program qualifies for the Kansas Promise Scholarship, giving you the opportunity to earn a degree or certificate at little to no cost.

The Kansas Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship that covers tuition, fees, books, and other program-related expenses not already paid by other scholarships or grants. It’s available to eligible Kansas students enrolled in high-demand programs. In return, recipients agree to live and work in Kansas for two years after completing their program.
