Tobacco- Free Campus Policy

Policy Statement:

Garden City Community College is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for its students, employees, visitors, and contractors.   

Procedures:

 For purposes of this policy tobacco includes but is not limited to smoking tobacco, chew, snuff, snus, and dipping tobacco.  This policy also prohibits lit or unlit cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, clove cigarettes, cigars, pipes, hookahs, bids, blunts, cigarillos, smokeless tobacco items that simulate any of the previously mentioned products.

The only exceptions to this policy are (a) tobacco use is allowed only in personal vehicles and designated tobacco use areas and (b) products approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as tobacco cessation products.

Garden City Community College students and employees will encourage policy compliance. All students and employees share the responsibility for adhering to and enforcing this policy.

A self-policing strategy will be implemented to ensure that everyone complies with the tobacco-free campus policy. Students and employees will courteously remind offenders to follow College policy.

Repeat violations shall be dealt with according to established student and employee codes of conduct, policy, and procedures.

Campus visitors and contractors who fail to comply may be asked to leave College property.

Designated smoking areas:

Designated smoking area signs have been posted in these areas and cigarette disposal containers have been placed.

The designated tobacco use areas are as follows:

1. Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex: North side of the parking lot in the island, west of the dumpsters
2. PENKA, West side of the building in the grassy area
3. Residential Life: North of east units
4. John Collins Vocational Technical Building: West of the building by the brick wall, between the welding and wood shops, 50 feet from the building.
5. Maintenance: West of the building by the storage container
6. Beth Tedrow Student Center: South side of building, west door near freezer Click here to enter text.
