GCCC Board of Trustees Meeting Recap September 14, 2026
The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees conducted three consecutive meetings: a public hearing to exceed the revenue neutral rate, a public hearing on the 2026-2027 budget, and the regularly scheduled meeting on September 14, 2026.
The Board approved and adopted the Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget, holding the mill levy flat. The certified tax levy for the General Fund is set at $17,212,812, with a mill rate of 27.730, and $929,491 for Capital Outlay with a mill rate of 1.497. The combined proposed budget for the General Fund and Post-Secondary Technical Education Fund totals $28,417,700.
The Board approved GCCC’s affiliation with the Kansas Police & Firemen’s Retirement System (KP&F) for eligible Campus Police Officers and the Chief of Police, effective January 1, 2027. The affiliation is intended to strengthen recruitment and retention by providing retirement benefits aligned with other law enforcement employers.
The Board approved the 2026-2027 Negotiated Agreement previously agreed upon by the GC3 Educator faculty union and GCCC Administration.
The Board approved naming rights for two shop spaces within the Security State Bank Construction Trades Center at GCCC: the Finnup Foundation Construction Trades Shop and the Triple Oak Power Electrical Trades Shop. The trades center, currently under construction, will expand workforce training and help meet the growing demand for skilled trades professionals in Southwest Kansas. The naming rights recognize the organizations’ ongoing support of GCCC and its students.
The Board received a comprehensive update from the GCCC Endowment Association, which covered key financial metrics, scholarship distributions, and recent and upcoming events. The update showcased the Endowment Association’s ongoing commitment to supporting students and advancing the college’s mission.
The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
