Garden City Career Connection Academy Celebrates National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week
[Garden City, KS] September 15, 2025 -- The Garden City Career Connection Academy (GCCCA), a division of Garden City Community College, is proud to celebrate National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, September 14–20, 2025.
Adult education plays a vital role in helping learners develop new skills, pursue career opportunities, and adapt to an ever-changing workforce. These programs are crucial in closing the education gap, supporting economic mobility, and empowering individuals to reach their goals. Through adult education, learners gain valuable knowledge, skills, and credentials that open doors to brighter futures.
Family literacy extends these benefits by strengthening communities, reducing poverty, improving health outcomes, and increasing civic engagement. By bringing families together to learn, these programs foster stronger connections and build relationships across diverse communities.
During National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, GCCCA emphasizes three important goals:
- Recognize the achievements of adult learners and extend gratitude to the dedicated educators who support them with compassion and commitment.
- Advocate for adult education by raising awareness of its impact and urging policymakers to consider the growing needs of adult learners and educators when making funding decisions.
- Encourage other adults to take the step toward continuing their education. Returning to school as an adult is not always easy, but it is often necessary, and now more important than ever.
“Garden City Community College is committed to creating opportunities for every learner,” said Claudia Horney, Director of Adult Education and Literacy Program at GCCC. “Through the Career Connection Academy, we are proud to support adult education and family literacy, serving students from diverse backgrounds and cultures as they work toward their personal and professional goals.”
The Garden City Career Connection Academy continues to provide essential resources and programs that empower individuals and families to thrive, strengthening both the college and the broader community. Serving over 700 students annually, the Career Connection Academic is one of the largest adult education programs in Kansas.
