GCCC Sports Medicine Department to Host 5K Fun Run Walk on March 24th

[Garden City, KS] February 28, 2024 -- In commemoration of National Athletic Training Month, the GCCC Sports Medicine department is proud to announce its upcoming Busted Buster 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, at 9:00 AM. The event serves a dual purpose by promoting fitness and well-being and functioning as a fundraiser for the Sports Medicine Department and Student Program! Pre-registration is required by March 13th.

Participants can expect a morning filled with physical activity, fun, and the opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause. The race route will be plotted around GCCC Campus with signage & volunteers to direct along the way. Participants should park in the parking lot at GCCC Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex and check-in starting at 8:00 AM by the complex's main entrance, with the race beginning at 9:00 AM.

Registration is now open for individuals ages 5-17 at a fee of $20, ages 18-59 at $35, and ages 60+ at $25. Registration includes a commemorative event t-shirt and a medal for all participants. There will be prizes for 1^st place overall (male & female prizes) and prizes for 1^st place for age group (age groups: >9, 10-17, 18-39, 40-59, and 60+).

The GCCC Sports Medicine Department offers the opportunity to gain clinical shadowing and hands-on skills and experience in the field of athletic training. Students of the program assist the certified athletic trainers in the treatment and care of student-athletes across 17 NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) teams on campus. Students learn first-aid, emergency care, injury evaluation and treatment techniques, functional anatomy, and much more. Students provide medical coverage at practices and games and may have the opportunity to travel with our athletic teams to conference, regional, and national events.
