About the Program

Program Overview
The Pre-Social Work program at Garden City Community College introduces students to the scientific study of human behavior and social systems. Students explore how individuals think, act, and interact with the world while building a strong academic foundation in behavioral science.

Human Behavior and Social Systems
Coursework includes key theories in human development, cognition, and social influence. Students also learn about social systems, professional ethics, and the challenges faced by individuals, families, and communities.

Advocacy and Problem-Solving Skills
The program prepares students to advocate for vulnerable populations, promote social justice, and develop practical problem-solving skills needed in social service and human services fields.

Scholarship

Kansas Promise Scholarship Eligible
This program qualifies for the Kansas Promise Scholarship, giving you the opportunity to earn a degree or certificate at little to no cost.

The Kansas Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship that covers tuition, fees, books, and other program-related expenses not already paid by other scholarships or grants. It’s available to eligible Kansas students enrolled in high-demand programs. In return, recipients agree to live and work in Kansas for two years after completing their program.
