About the Program

Program Overview
The Fire Science program at Garden City Community College prepares students for careers in fire protection and emergency response. This hands-on program is designed to help students build the skills needed to pursue employment with fire departments and related emergency services.

Real-World Training Experience
Students gain practical, real-world experience through training with the local fire department. Instruction focuses on fire suppression, rescue techniques, and hazardous materials handling. A burn tower that allows students to get live fire experience is on-site.

Science and Safety Focus
The program also explores the science behind fire behavior and prevention strategies, helping students understand how and why fires spread and how to control them safely.

Career-Ready Skills
Students train with industry-standard equipment and develop the knowledge and confidence needed for high-stakes careers in fire protection and emergency response.

Credentials

Students will graduate the program with a Firefighter 1 and 2, Emergency Medical Technician, and Driver Operator IFSAC certification. These certifications allow our students the ability to go anywhere they want. IFSAC is a nationally recognized certification platform.
