GCCC to Offer Workforce Training Course on Electric Motors and Controls
Garden City Community College will offer a 40-hour workforce training course titled Understanding & Troubleshooting Electric Motors and Controls beginning March 26, 2026, through April 23, 2026. The course will meet weekly for five weeks on Thursdays from 8 a.m.–12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the GCCC John Collins Vocational Technical Building.
Designed for community members seeking to expand their technical skills, this hands-on course covers the operation and troubleshooting of industrial electrical controls and AC induction motors. The training is ideal for individuals working in manufacturing, maintenance, industrial technology, or related fields who want to strengthen their troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
Topics will include Ohm’s Law and Watt’s Law; series and parallel circuits; test and measurement equipment; motor control mechanical components; AC induction motor construction and wiring; motor control wiring and design; and maintenance and troubleshooting techniques. Participants will also learn to read and interpret technical documentation such as circuit diagrams and schematics.
By performing measurements on motors and motor control circuits, students will apply proven troubleshooting strategies to identify, localize, and correct malfunctions. Safety considerations within electrical systems will also be emphasized throughout the course.
Instruction will be led by Ryan Connolly, GCCC Industrial Maintenance Technology Program Lead, providing participants with practical, real-world knowledge applicable to today’s industrial environments.
