American Implement, a large John Deere dealership in Western Kansas, visited Garden City Community College on Thursday, January 31st to film a commercial for the John Deere TECH (JDAT) program, which is housed in the John Collins Vocational Technical Building at GCCC. GCCC is one of the twenty-one global locations currently hosting the TECH program, which provides training and certification for John Deere dealer sponsored, paid interns to work on all John Deere equipment from diesel engines, powertrains, and hydraulics to machine set-up systems.
While on campus, American Implement’s crew interviewed both JDAT Instructors, Nathan Steinle and Gabe Winger, as well as Dean of Technical Education, Chuck Pfeifer. The crew also took video footage of the 8200 square foot JDAT shop. The shop is the current and temporary home of two John Deere combines and engines that the program uses for training during this time of year. This equipment gives students hands-on experience in the shop.
The camera crew also visited the GCCC dormitory rooms and the college cafeteria. Paid interns who are sponsored by John Deere dealerships may commute to and from the location; however, those students who are from outside of the local area spend the duration of the 24-month program living in the dorms, eating in the cafeteria, and going through the intense and focused training provided by GCCC.
John Deere is a Fortune 100 company and the leading producer of agricultural equipment as well as a major manufacturer of industrial and consumer equipment. Garden City Community College is proud to host the TECH program, and serves twenty students in the program each academic year. Of those students, a significant portion come from the American Implement family.
The American Implement commercial will be shared by the company on social media and the web as a recruiting tool for prospective students. To learn more about the John Deere TECH program through American Implement, visit www.americanimplement.com/service/ag-tech-programs!
