At the halftime of the men’s basketball game on February 15, a new floor plan for the main gymnasium was unveiled. Slated for fall of 2017, just in time for Buster Volleyball and Basketball, the new floor has come to fruition thanks to Conestoga Energy Partners. Conestoga Energy Partners CEO, Tom Willis, was on hand to help with the reveal. The new gymnasium will soon be renamed Conestoga Energy Partners Arena.
The floor will be named Ron Schwartz Court, in honor of a long-standing GCCC Board of Trustee member, who passed this last April after a long and brave fight with cancer. Ron and his wife Janie were fixtures in the stands of every sport and activity at GCCC, and proud supporters of Broncbuster Basketball. The overall complex will remain Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex (DPAC).
According to GCCC Athletic Director, John Green, the floor will have new cushioning which makes it safer for student-athletes. Work on the gym floor will begin as soon as all May activities in the gym are complete. Work will continue on the project throughout the summer, and the goal is to be ready for the first home volleyball game of the 2017 season.
