GCCCA Ribbon Cutting

Garden City Community College (GCCC) will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly remodeled Garden City Career Connection Academy (GCCCA) on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Spruce Street Education Center, 1802 E. Spruce Street in Garden City. The event will be held in partnership with the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce, and the community is invited to attend.

The celebration marks an important milestone in adult education for GCCC and the region. Serving more than 700 students annually, GCCCA provides GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), and citizenship courses. These programs, which were previously spread across multiple on-campus buildings, are now consolidated into a single central campus location within the newly renovated Spruce Street Education Center.

The remodel features modern classrooms, offices, and student spaces designed to support adult learners and streamline access to essential educational opportunities. By creating a one-stop location, GCCC is expanding its ability to meet the needs of adult learners and strengthen workforce and community development.

“Adult education transforms lives, and this renovation allows us to better serve our students and community,” said Dr. Ryan Ruda, GCCC President. “We are proud to celebrate this important milestone and continue expanding opportunities for lifelong learning in Southwest Kansas.”

Vice President for Instructional Services Dr. Marc Malone added, “The work of the GCCCA is an essential, foundational link in the economic success of our region, empowering students to break down barriers to involvement in the economy. I’m grateful to every donor who has made this remodel possible, because they are directly contributing to the success of our region’s workforce and quality of life.”

The Spruce Street Education Center, formerly known as the Spruce Street Technical Center, also houses the GCCC Welding Program at the back of the building. The front portion has been completely renovated to accommodate GCCCA and its growing enrollment.

The remodel was made possible through state funding, external grants, and private contributions, supporting the continued growth of adult education.

The public is invited to join GCCC and the Chamber of Commerce at the ribbon-cutting to tour the updated facility and celebrate the expansion of educational opportunities for the community.
