GCCC Music Department Sees Success with Fourth Annual KMEA Learning Day

[Garden City, KS] October 5, 2023 -- The Garden City Community College Music Department successfully hosted the fourth annual Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) Learning Day on October 4, 2023.

The event was created to help prepare area high school music students for district and state level honor groups. GCCC music instructors assisted and rehearsed with the music students in their respective musical specialties throughout the GCCC campus. This year, over 465 choir, band, and orchestra students attended from 17 different high schools in Western Kansas.

"Students were able to make music with others from surrounding schools and learn to fine-tune themselves for their auditions," shared Sean Boller, GCCC Associate Professor of Vocal Music/Choir Director. "We would like to thank our administration for allowing us to offer this opportunity for students. We also want to thank Flint Hills Music and President Ruda for providing lunch to our students."

In addition to spending the day preparing music, students heard from GCCC music faculty about practice tips, how to prepare for auditions, and the programs that GCCC offers.
