GCCC’s Mercer Gallery Hosting A Salute To Service Exhibition

[Garden City, KS] March 24, 2025 -- The Mercer Gallery proudly presents A Salute to Service, a group exhibition honoring the dedication of those who serve their communities. Open now through April 8th, the exhibition pays tribute to veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and others who go above and beyond to make a difference.

Featuring works from over a dozen artists, the show showcases diverse perspectives and styles, expressing gratitude, admiration, and respect for these everyday heroes. Through painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, each piece reflects the passion, sacrifice, and courage that define a life of service.

The exhibition comes to the gallery through Kary Zweygardt from Saint Frances, Kansas, who curated and organized this traveling art exhibition of regional artists. Its first appearance was at Hardt Gallery in Saint Frances, Kansas, followed by this exhibition at the Mercer Gallery in Garden City, Kansas, and then on to The Orphanage Gallery in Yuma, Colorado, with more exhibition locations in the works.

"A Salute to Service" is not just an art show; it is a heartfelt recognition of the people who inspire us with their selflessness, determination, and commitment to the well-being of others. The powerful stories will move visitors through these works of art, each offering a different perspective on the service that keeps our communities safe and thriving.

"We wanted to create a space where the community could come together to honor and reflect on the incredible individuals who dedicate their lives to helping others," said Kary Zweygardt, curator of the exhibition. "This show is our way of saying thank you, of expressing our deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by these individuals every day."

The closing reception on Tuesday, April 8th, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. provides a chance to meet artists, experience the artwork, and connect with others who share in the spirit of gratitude.

The Mercer Gallery, located in the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building at GCCC, is open Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
