GCCC Endowment Association Announces Two New Endowed Scholarships

[Garden City, KS] November 9, 2022 -- The GCCC Endowment Association has announced two new endowed scholarships have recently been established.  The Endowment Association, along with the GCCC President's Office, have begun a new initiative aimed at increasing the number of endowed scholarships available for students at Garden City Community College.

The first newly endowed scholarship is the Zachary Jay Harman Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Zachary was in the Criminal Justice Program at GCCC from fall of 2005 to spring of 2007. This scholarship is to honor Zachary and his passion for Criminal Justice. This scholarship will be awarded to students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program with a 2.5 GPA.

The second newly endowed scholarship is the Emmons/Hilliard-Emmons Family Endowed Scholarship. Joseph Emmons served as Interim President of GCCC from August of 2010 to March 2011. The scholarship will be designated for non-traditional students (GED students, single parent, etc.) with a preference given to ESL students. The scholarship will be based on financial need and a GPA of 2.0.

Students are encouraged to apply early as scholarships are awarded in the order applications are received and until funds are exhausted. GCCC offers over 300 endowed and annual scholarships each year. The 2023/2024 Scholarship Application is open now.  For scholarship questions, contact the GCCC Financial Aid Office at 620-276-9519 or finaid@gcccks.edu.

An endowed scholarship allows you to create a scholarship fund that remains intact forever. The principal is invested, and a portion of the return is used each year to support the scholarship.  An endowed scholarship can begin with any amount and build over time.  To learn more about creating an endowed scholarship, please contact Jeff Mitchell, Executive Director, at jeffery.mitchell@gcccks.edu or 620-276-0412.
