GCCC BOT Approve 2024-2025 Budget, Negotiated Agreement, and MoU with USD 363
[Garden City, KS] September 11, 2024 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees conducted three consecutive meetings: a public hearing on exceeding the revenue neutral rate, a public hearing on the 2024-2025 budget, and the regularly scheduled meeting on September 10, 2024.
The Board approved and adopted the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget. The certified tax levy for the General Fund is set at $16,291,008 with a mill rate of 27.765, and $878,770 for Capital Outlay with a mill rate of 1.498. The combined proposed budget for the General Fund and Post-Secondary Technical Education Fund totals $26,274,131.
The Board approved the 2024-2025 Negotiated Agreement previously agreed upon by the GC3 Educator faculty union and GCCC Administration.
The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with USD 363 Holcomb School District to expand Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings by establishing a welding program at Holcomb High School. Following the approval, GCCC and USD 363 will collaborate to launch the project, which includes acquiring equipment and making necessary renovations. The program will increase the current dual-credit enrollment. Both entities will share the costs, and enrollment is expected to begin in fall 2025, with GCCC utilizing state apprenticeship funds dedicated to advancing technical and career education.
Additionally, the Board heard a five-year review for the Communication program, highlighting a program overview, enrollment statistics, institutional data, achievements over the past five years, and potential areas for future development.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room in the Beth Tedrow Student Center, Garden City Community College Campus.
