GCCC Board of Trustees Meeting Recap October 14, 2025

[Garden City, KS] October 15, 2025 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees met for a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room at GCCC.

The Board approved the addition of a Certificate A in Robotics and Mechatronics Technology. The option will allow students with declared majors in a computer science or industrial maintenance pathway to earn a college credential in introductory skills and concepts in robotics. GCCC will submit a formal application for approval to the Kansas Board of Regents in November.

The Board received an update on the Title III STEM Grant, a five-year, $5 million grant awarded to GCCC by the U.S. Department of Education in 2021, which is now entering its final year. Highlights from the grant include the launch of new programs in Robotics and Mechatronics, Computer Support Specialist, and Crop Production Technology; the construction of a new STEM Success Center in the Warren Fouse Math and Science Building; the addition of a new on-campus greenhouse; and other initiatives. The update also included an overview of the yearly goals, activities, and expected outcomes as the grant concludes in 2026.

The Board received a comprehensive update from the GCCC Endowment Association, which covered key financial metrics, scholarship distributions, and recent and upcoming events. The update showcased the Endowment Association’s ongoing commitment to supporting students and advancing the college’s mission, including a notable 50% increase in scholarship dollars awarded to students in the past academic year.

The Board reviewed five-year reports from the EMS/Paramedic program and the Broncbuster Bookstore, which highlighted program overviews, key achievements from the past five years, and opportunities for future growth.

The Board also reviewed monitoring reports on Work Preparedness and Safe and Healthy Campus. The monitoring report on Work Preparedness highlighted information on the skills and knowledge that students possess for success in the workplace. Data presented to the Board showed that GCCC has realized a 255% increase in the number of Career Technical Education program completers over the last six years, from 160 in 2019 to 389 in 2024. Additionally, 94% of students completed their program of study in 2024. The monitoring report on a Safe and Healthy Campus focused on various initiatives and activities focused on student and employee health, as well as awareness campaigns and projects either completed or in progress to address a safe and secure campus.

The next regular Board of Trustees meeting will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Omar D. Angeles Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center on the GCCC campus.
