Garden City Community College Launches New Speech and Debate Team
[Garden City, KS] June 12, 2025 -- Garden City Community College (GCCC) is proud to announce the launch of its new Speech and Debate team, Phi Rho Pi, beginning in Fall 2025. This inclusive and dynamic student organization is open to all GCCC students, regardless of major or prior experience.
The GCCC Speech and Debate team is designed to empower students with enhanced public speaking, critical thinking, and argumentation skills through various competitive and collaborative events. Members will have the opportunity to represent GCCC at local, state, and national tournaments, gaining valuable experience and confidence in public discourse.
“Whether you’re a seasoned speaker or brand new to debate, this team offers a welcoming and supportive space to find your voice and grow,” said Savannah Sanburg, Team Coach and Assistant Professor of Communication at GCCC. She continued, “As an educator at more than six colleges and universities over the past 15 years, I’ve had the unique opportunity to foster meaningful connections through the power of the student experience. With 26 years of experience in Speech and Debate at both the high school and collegiate levels, I’ve found that the true joy of teaching lies in the art of student performance. How lucky am I to be part of a new day here at GCCC! Let’s go, Broncbusters!”
In addition to skill-building and competition, scholarships are available for eligible team members, making this an exciting opportunity for students looking to expand their academic and extracurricular experiences.
