BOT Approves New Healthcare Agreement for GCCC Employees

[Garden City, KS] September 15, 2021 -- The Garden City Community College Board of Trustees approved a new healthcare agreement through Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) with Grow Well, a healthcare program in Garden City, KS, during the regularly scheduled meeting on September 14th.

A new membership program has been made available to GCCC employees enrolled in the BCBS health insurance program through GCCC. The Grow Well healthcare program will provide primary/urgent care, health risk assessments, and a comprehensive wellness program as well as workers' compensation and employment/pre-employment screening services. The agreement between BCBS and Grow Well will be for a three-year period to provide the services to GCCC employees enrolled in the GCCC health insurance program.

The program will be added into the GCCC health plan at no additional cost to employees.  GCCC fund reserves with Blue Cross Blue Shield will be used to cover the cost of this agreement in order to expand healthcare options and services to GCCC employees. 

The Board also approved a clarification of funding for approval of the transportation building contract.  The transportation building was approved at the special board meeting on Aug. 26, 2021.  The total approved contract for the Transportation building is $2,200,846. The funding is broken down as follows: $1,500,000 paid from the approved Certificate of Participation financing, $300,000 paid from Certificate of Participation financing from savings in approved projects which have been completed, and $400,846 paid from capital outlay funds.

The Board recapped and highlighted the 0.69 decrease in mill rate from the special meeting on Sept. 13, 2021, where the Trustees approved and adopted the 2021-22 fiscal year budget.

Additionally, the Board heard public comments from community members.

The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, October 19th at 6 p.m. in the Endowment Room at the Beth Tedrow Student Center.
