ABOUT ARTIST: ISAAC SANDOVAL

Isaac Sandoval is from Las Vegas, New Mexico, and is a true Renaissance man, creating paintings to cast metal sculptures to award-winning culinary dishes. His images are boldly colorful and surreal, with themes of time travel and culinary delights. His sculptures are prominent, expressive, and technically well-executed, ranging from cast objects to fabrication. His culinary delights can be found on the menu of his food truck turned hipster bistro and cocktail lounge, The Skillet, named after a 3 1/2 foot diameter, couple hundred pounds cast iron skillet that he made at Fort Hays State University while in graduate school.

Isaac also has an art degree from the University of New Mexico Highlands, where he still is involved with alum relations today. Isaac also constructs works out of salvaged metal and the cast-off detritus of mechanical life. He welds these parts and pieces into wildly re-imagined everyday objects, such as massive kitchen skillets and chandeliers made from motorcycle gas tanks. His painted metal sculptures, mixed media work, and brightly lit assemblages conjure magical creatures and ceremonial objects from a psychedelic dystopian future.
