The GCCC Police Officer provides law enforcement and public safety services to the college community to include enforcement of criminal statutes, parking enforcement, crime prevention, patrol activity, accident investigation, resolution of domestic and other disturbances, prosecution support, non-criminal public safety services, and enforcement of college policies, rules, and regulations. To carry out these responsibilities, officers monitor buildings, patrol grounds for suspicious activity, and watch for any safety hazards. Officers answer calls for service typical of the college environment such as responding to medical emergencies, lock and unlock classroom doors, money escorts, recover property, and keep campus thoroughfares and lots unobstructed. All assignments involve responsibility for tactful and courteous treatment of the public and conscientious and efficient performance of duties.
Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
Computer skills are necessary (Microsoft Office products desired). Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Some weekends/holidays. Working special events is required, as is working any shift needed.
The position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of 30 pounds or more, carrying equipment, varying amounts of sitting, climbing, kneeling, standing and walking. Distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus is necessary.
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office; however, there is occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions.
