Discover Media at GCCC

Students interested in careers in the media have a chance to earn that can provide up to $2,400 in participation scholarships while they develop skills in:

  • Business, Marketing and Advertising
  • Commercial Production
  • Graphic Design
  • Digital Photography, Videography and Audio
  • Newspaper, Magazine and Web Production
  • Management and Leadership
  • Writing & Editing

GCCC offers students a solid foundation of academics and technical experience in preparing for careers in the converging 21st century media, as well as course experiences for non-majors who want to explore digital media.

Students get access to our state-of-the-art Cox Communication production facilities plus internship opportunities with local media outlets, as well as our student-managed online news and feature web site.

Students can work on Silhouette, the campus newspaper, or Breakaway, the four-color feature campus magazine. Both have earned Associated Collegiate Press awards at the state and national level, and have produced a number of Collegiate Journalists of the Year. In addition, experience in a news room-style, campus-based media lab will impress college recruiters as well as future employers.

GCCC offers small classes, individual attention and the chance to attend state and national conferences and competition.
