LV Petroleum Sponsors Five New Scholarships for Garden City Achieve Graduates at GCCC

[Garden City, KS] May 3, 2023 -- Garden City Community College has received a scholarship donation from LV Petroleum. Through this, five $1,000 annual scholarships will be available for graduates of Garden City Achieve planning to attend GCCC this fall.

Quyntyn Johnson, Senior VP of Operations at LV Petroleum, shared why these scholarships were created. "Our CEOs understand the challenges and importance of higher education; therefore LV Petroleum provided the scholarship funds to Garden City Community College to give back to the community and provide some financial relief for students who need it." He continued, "Our mission is to combine knowledge with development experience and operational excellence in which we feel Garden City Community College can provide this through their education system."

LV Petroleum has recently acquired and remodeled the travel center at 1265 Solar Ave in Garden City, now named Garden City TA. Johnson shared, "Education is important to LV Petroleum; we want to see people succeed. Therefore, having an education system within the same community as one of our Travel Center sites allows us to support the next generation's path to success. Supporting Garden City Community College will allow us to form strong bonds within the community and provide career opportunities, work experience and stepping stones for the students of Garden City to reach their ultimate end goal."

Five $1,000 annual scholarships will be available for Garden City Achieve graduates planning to attend GCCC in Fall 2023. Lucas Sullivan, Principal of GC Achieve, shared his thoughts on the scholarships available to his students, "We are extremely honored at GC Achieve to receive the LV Petroleum Scholarships for our students to attend Garden City Community College. We are excited to partner with LV Petroleum moving forward and continuing our great relationship with GCCC."

Dr. Ryan Ruda, GCCC President, echoed the relationship between LV Petroleum and GCCC, "We are excited and appreciative of this new opportunity with LV Petroleum. From the very beginning of meeting and working with LV Petroleum administration and staff, they have embraced the community and the community college, fully supporting education and student success. This new scholarship opportunity enhances access and affordability, key components at GCCC."
