MUSICAL MILESTONES III COMING UP MAY 8 AT GCCC
Concluding concert features vocal performers from
eight area towns
The
Garden City Community College vocal music program is planning to conclude the
year with Musical Milestones III, a public concert featuring the GCCC Concert
Choir and the select College Singers ensemble.
The
program, conducted by Vocal Music Director J. Clayton Wright, is set for 7:30
p.m. May 8 in the auditorium of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building. Admission is free said the night will
blend the voices of students from eight Southwest Kansas communities.
The
groups will present medleys from four well-known musicals, including Oklahoma,
West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, and Wicked.
ÒWeÕll
be staging some of these medleys with choreography,Ó Wright explained. GCCC English Instructor Marjorie Hall,
a former dance studio operator, is developing those segments of the evening.
The concert will mark the
third straight year that the department has concluded the spring term with a
program of show tunes, and it will also draw on the talents of a pit band of
campus and community instrumental musicians, including Matt Lobmeyer, Jason
Bilberry, GCCC Piano Instructor Carolyn Klassen and Marlene Peters, all of
Garden City.
The choir includes Monica
Beeson, Scott City; Ashley Fairbanks, Sublette; Kristen Gee, Ulysses; Leslie Freese, Scott City;
Tiffany Horner, Lakin; Victor Rincon, Deerfield; Dalia Romero, Scott City; Sami Sheppard, Johnson; and Julissa Sauzameda, Cimarron. Other choir
members are Chelsie Barnes, Jason Bilberry, Radley Carter, Cody Cundiff,
Chelsea Ford, Shaina Gohl, Heidi Hall, Emily Hubbard, Joshua Hutchinson, Rosio
Ibarra, Daniel Pearson, Daniel Peter, Marlene Peters, Melinda Reed, all of Garden
City.
The select Singers ensemble is
made up of Barnes, Bilberry, Carter, Cundiff, Fairbanks, Hall, Horner,
Hutchinson, Ibarra, Reed, Rincon and Sauzameda.
