STUDENTS, ARTISTS ANNOUNCE MAY 7 CERAMIC & SCULPTURE SALE AT
GCCC
The
work of nine or more Southwest Kansas artists will be available May 7 at the
spring art sale of the Garden City Community College Potters Guild.
The
annual pre-Mother's Day event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the
lobby of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building on the GCCC campus, featuring
hundreds of ceramic and sculptural pieces created in college art courses.
The
guild, made up of students enrolled in courses taught by Art Instructor Brian
McCallum, stages an art sale each May and December, offering abstract,
representational and utilitarian works.
McCallum
said prices would range from $5 to $50 for most pieces, offering the
opportunity for people to find affordable gifts for graduation, Mother's Day or
other occasions. There will be
faculty pieces in addition to those created by students.
Some
of the potters involved are students who have taken up the art form in recent
years, and others are established area artists.
The
group includes Julie Sauzameda, Cimarron;
Judy Scott, Lakin; Kate Dibbern,
York, Neb.; Chad Mitchell, Albuquerque,
NM; and a number from Garden
City, including Dick Erskin, Bill Crymble,
Jim Mathews, Chandra Knowles and Jack Simpson.
Ceramics
and paintings by Dibbern are also on display through April 27 in the
walk-though gallery at GCCCÕs Beth Tedrow Student Center.
ÒThese
potters range from seasoned professionals to less experienced students, and
their work will be for sale at very reasonable prices,Ó McCallum said.
While
the students can't accept credit cards at the sale, they're able to take either
cash or checks; and will have bags and packing materials on hand.
