ALAURA SHARP EARNS COACH OF YEAR HONORS IN JAYHAWK WEST
Alaura Sharp, head coach for Garden City Community College women’s basketball,
was recently named the Western Division coach of the year in the Kansas Jayhawk
Community College Conference.
In
her first year at the helm of the program at GCCC, Sharp led the Lady
Broncbusters to a third place finish in the Jayhawk West, with a conference
record of 12 wins and four losses.
The team ended the season with an overall record of 17 and 15, which is the
first winning record for the women’s basketball program since 2003.
In
addition to Sharp earning the coach of the year honor, she also coached the
freshman of the year for the Jayhawk West, Marisela Rodriguez.
Rodriguez averaged 13.1 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game.
Victoria Naylor was also earned honorable mention all-conference honors
for GCCC under the coach’s guidance.
The Busters finished the season in the quarterfinals of the Region VI tournament
-- their first quarterfinal appearance since 2003.
