Course Catalog Description: This course covers theory of demand and supply, productivity and costs, equilibrium of the firm, price determination, pure competition, imperfect competition and monopoly, along with other related economic problems. 3 credit hours.

What effect does a large firm have on the economy as a whole? …on a single community? What drives our purchasing decisions regarding housing, transportation, entertainment and other things? Microeconomics is an excellent course for those running a business, or concentrating in business to place a perspective on selecting optimum output levels and the influences of the market on pricing.

Among other things, the course covers the basics of supply & demand, the role of utility in purchase decisions, and market models.

Either Micro or Macro may be taken first. Microeconomics fulfills part of the elective requirements for a business concentration for the Associate of Science degree, or a portion of the social science core requirements for the AS degree without the business concentration at GCCC. This course typically transfers for business majors at four year schools. Information on specific transferability is available through the following link, http://www.gcccks.edu/current/counseling/transferinfo.html or by contacting the four year school you are interested in attending.
