Accounting

The Accounting Department seeks to provide students with an education that focuses on the common body of accounting
knowledge, and the development and application of skills needed for entry into their profession.

What is accounting?

Accounting is the language of business and is a process of measuring, recording, classifying, and summarizing financial data
that will be useful in making economic decisions. The users of accounting information include owners of the business,
creditors that have loaned money to an entity, labor unions, and taxing authorities.

Career opportunities in accounting

There are many career paths for accounting graduates. Our graduates are employed by public accounting firms and
pursue the professional certification in public accounting, Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Others prefer employment
with corporations and pursue professional certifications in managerial accounting, Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA).
There are career opportunities in accounting, forensics, tax, management advisory services, governmental and not-for-profit
accounting, internal auditing, cost management, and financial analysis.
