Emergency
Medical Services Technology (EMST)
Mission
The Emergency Medical
Services Technology (EMST) Program will produce competent entry level,
pre-hospital care providers to meet the ever-increasing needs of the
health care community.
Program graduates will function as:
• Providers
of care by employing cognitive, psychomotor, and effective knowledge and skills
to provide pre-hospital
care
• Managers of care by prioritizing and directing pre-hospital care in multiple
illness and emergency situations
• Members of the profession by participating in lifelong learning, and
education of the public about illness and injury prevention
Graduates of GCCC’s EMST program are eligible to be certified
by state and national testing. Graduates of the various courses have
historically
gained employment without difficulty in all aspects of pre-hospital
care. Those courses include First Responder, EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate,
and
EMT-P/Paramedic. In more rural areas, graduates may function in volunteer
services or in urban areas as ground or air ambulance personnel.
Graduates
of these courses have the option of completing the nursing program
or entering the career market. Upon completion of the EMT-P/Paramedic
Program
the student is granted an Associate in Applied Science Degree. The
EMT-P/Paramedic program is accredited by CoAEMSP, the national accrediting
body.
