Training Sessions

The women’s team comes in for pre-season training around August 9th. Sessions during the preseason last 2 1/2 to 3 hours, with the goals of gaining match fitness, technical sharpness, team tactical understanding and team unity. Once the season starts, training sessions last ninety minutes. The beauty of soccer is that during a match it cannot be coach-dominated. Because soccer is a player's game, it is of key importance that players be thoroughly prepared in training. The main goal of Coach Huffman is to provide training experiences that enable each player to attain his or her potential in every aspect of the game.

Coach Huffman feels that training sessions help the players gain total mastery of the ball, vision of the entire field, along with composure and creativity in decision making. To accomplish this, most technical and tactical training takes place under pressure of one or more defenders to enable a player to experience the presence of an opponent- even though the pressure might be passive at first. Tactical training and activities where time and space with the ball at one’s foot are limited is an integral part of Lady Buster soccer sessions. Small-sided games and a heavy emphasis on functional training are employed to assist each player in fulfilling her soccer potential. Fitness is incorporated during training sessions and emphasize endurance and speed. One of Coach Huffman’s goals is to see his team be the fittest team on game day. Competitiveness is constantly developed through friendly team competitions.
