ABOUT THE SOCCER PROGRAM/CONFERENCE/PROGRAM FEATURES

Garden City Community College started a women’s soccer program in the fall of 2005. The Lady Busters have advanced to the Region 6 playoffs all four years it has been in existence-something not all teams are able to accomplish. The on field product has steadily improved over the course of the four years, with the program finishing the regular season of 2008 and Region 6 competition with a winning record. Of the six regular season losses in 2008, four were by a single goal.  Their has been one All Region player selected in each of the first four years of the program. Academics are highly stressed by Coach Huffman, as evidenced by the women’s soccer team having the second highest team GPA of any women’s soccer team in the Jayhawk Conference during the 2006-2007 school year and the third highest during the 2007-2008 school year. The Lady Busters have also produced three Academic All Americans in their short four year program history.

Athletically, the Lady Busters compete as an NJCAA Division I scholarship bearing program that competes in the well known Kansas Jay Hawk Conference.  In total, the Jayhawk Conference has produced: 110 national team titles, 4,000 NJCAA All Americans, 160 NFL players, and 27 NBA players.

If players are looking to move on to a four year college program, that can be accomplished as part of the Lady Buster soccer program. Whether it is an NCAA Division 3 school in New England or an NAIA school in the Midwest, Coach Huffman will make sure that his players find a good fit for them on and off the field after their collegiate career is completed at Garden City Community College.

The athletic department owns a fleet of vehicles to transport its team to away games. They include two college owned charter style buses, regular buses and mini buses. Two to a hotel room is a norm on the road, along with quality pre and post game meals at traditional sit down restaurants.

Before each season, each player purchases a gear kit full of Garden City soccer apparel that they get to keep that is used on game days during the course of the regular season. .

Ball boys/ball girls and a bilingual public address are a part of each home game to add to this professional atmosphere. No other team in the conference can boast these amenities.
